Student Assistant in DCA’s Programme, Advocacy & Learning (PAL) Unit

DanChurchAid/DCA (“Folkekirkens Nødhjælp”) is looking for a Student Assistant 15 hours a week in DCA’s Headquarter in Copenhagen in the Programme, Advocacy and Learning (PAL) unit.

Then you may be interested in applying for the position as Student Assistant in the PAL Unit in DCA’s international department. We are seeking a student assistant who has collaborative and analytical skills to support the PAL Unit in Copenhagen with a range of tasks. The position is 15 hours (2 days) a week, with flexibility around exam times.  

The PAL Student Assistant will work in the PAL Unit together with the Head of Unit, Team Leaders, and a group of programme advisors. The position is based in the Policy & Programme Team, supporting both administrative tasks, report writing, support to country offices and analytical work. The student assistant will also support PAL’s general tasks and other team leaders with administrative tasks like coordinating weekly group meetings, supporting events and advocacy activities, etc.  

PAL’s programmatic work includes areas like climate change, resilience building, agroecology, market systems development, human rights-based approach, civic space, gender equality, religion & development, humanitarian policy and practice, localization, nexus, peacebuilding, business and human rights, blended finance, and local partnerships. We work from a multi-mandated approach working across the development, humanitarian, and peace (HDP) nexus and work with advocacy as a cross-cutting focus. A partner- and human rights-based approach is applied in all of DCA’s work. From DCA’s Head Office in Copenhagen, the PAL unit provides support and advice to 19 countries across the world in line with DCA’s global goals to Save lives, Build Resilient Communities, and Fight Extreme Inequality in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Ukraine. 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities: 

  • Support the Policy & Programme team in administrative, research, and analytical tasks under the leadership of the Team Leader Kira Ugaz-Simonsen and together with the P&P team members. 
  • Assist PAL Head of Unit and Team Leaders with administrative tasks, including PAL group meeting planning and note-taking, communication updates, end-to-end support for specific tasks, event planning, as well as other ad hoc tasks. 
  • Support with conducting screenings of new private sector partners, coordinated by the Team Leader in the Private Sector & Market Systems team. 
  • Support PAL Management Team and Advisors with various tasks like publications, research and report writing, graphical design, drafting of learning documents and planning of meetings, advocacy events and seminars.  
  • Take part in network meetings and events on behalf of DCA of relevance and interest. 
  • Other ad hoc tasks. 

Key Competencies  

  • The successful candidate will: 
  • Be enrolled in a relevant university programme (development studies, international relations, political science, gender studies, climate change, migration studies, business administration etc) - preferably with 1,5-2 years left. 
  • Have an interest in global development, human rights, climate, and humanitarian affairs. 
  • Be interested in working in a civil society organisation with the human rights-based approach as a foundation for all its work internationally and in Denmark. 
  • Possess analytical and critical thinking skills and interest in data analysis, with an eye for details. 
  • Possess strong competencies in graphical design and with IT solutions in general. 
  • Be fluent in English. Language skills in Danish, French, Arabic is an advantage. 
  • Have the ability to manage a busy workday with conflicting deadlines, and have an organised, structured approach. 
  • Be attentive to nurturing social cohesion and teamwork in the workspace.  
  • Be solution-oriented, positive, and interested in working in an intercultural working environment.  

We offer: 

  • A contract starting in medio August 2025 with 15 working hours per week (normally 2 working days a week depending on studies) with a salary based on DCA’s collective agreement
