Field Mechanic for DCA South Sudan

DanChurchAid (DCA) is an International Non-Governmental Organisation with headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark. The organisation was founded in 1922, and have country offices in 19 countries across Africa, the Middle East, Ukraine, and Asia. 

DCA has been active in South Sudan since 2007 and works within the three Global Goals of DCA – Save Lives, Build Resilient Communities, and Fight Extreme Inequalities. We work across Upper Nile, Jonglei, GPAA, Central Equatoria, and Eastern Equatoria States primarily through national partners. 

The primary responsibility of a Field/Country Office mechanic is to work on DCA fleet LC, Trucks and all other vehicles when is required. Also to care for the spare parts and maintain all DCA vehicles. Under Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA), the Mechanic will work under the managerial supervision of National Technical Advisor (NTA), and with the technical guidance and support of the International Mechanic and Country Office Mechanic

The specific duties of a mechanic can vary depending on the organisation they work for, but some common responsibilities include see below:  To qualify for a mechanic/assistant position, candidates typically need enough work experiences at same job and valid driving license and a clean driving record. Some employers may require additional certifications, such as a commercial driver's license (CDL) or specialized training in operating certain types of equipment. Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team are also important for success in this role. 

Regardless of the content of this job description the employee is expected to participate in any task necessary for the organization delegated by the managers at ground as NTA, International Mechanic and Fleet/mechanic always.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operating and maintaining company vehicles, such as trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment. 
  • Following safety protocols and regulations while working and operating equipment. 
  • Working on any DCA vehicle, maintenance or any other requirement.
  • Loading and unloading materials and equipment from vehicles. 
  • Following register for the next service and plan accordingly to request spare parts requesting it true chain of command. 
  • Completing job cards and keeping record for the next services and planning for any spare arts required. 
  • Maintaining accurate logs for all vehicles stage and conditions, mileage, and other necessary documentation.
  • Working closely with fleet/mechanic in Juba HQ and Pro Log office for any possible PRF required.
  • Assisting in any operations in the team as per request by NTA and International mechanic, basically teamwork engagement. (When is on field duties) 
  • At camp side assisting for any maintenance on the vehicle where is required more manpower, such as electrification of camp or any other maintenance required
  • Communicating effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and clients to ensure smooth mechanic/fleet operations. 
  • Assisting with other tasks as needed, such as inventory management or equipment maintenance.
  • The Mechanic is responsible for assisting/work on any vehicle during annual service or any breakdown on   vehicles.
  • Overseas all fleet and requirement when is fleet/mechanic out on HL (Home Leave)
  • Reporting to fleet/mechanic, Int. mechanic and OM directly, teamwork at all the time shall be in place.

Required Competencies:

To be successful in this role the ideal candidate has:

  • Expertise and at least 5 years of experience working in technical expertise in mechanics, hydraulics, and diagnostics, and soft skills, including adaptability.
  • A high school education is standard, but a technical degree, vocational training, or industry certifications are preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving, clear communication, and customer service orientation. Physical fitness, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and under pressure in diverse and unpredictable field environments.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Team player with excellent communication and strong participatory leadership skills.
  • Willingness to travel to remote areas in South Sudan and internationally when required. 
  • Ability to plan and coordinate several concurrent processes without losing the oversight.

What we can offer you:

The successful applicant will be offered a contract until for One year with the possibility of extension dependent on both funding and performance.
